Terrorist killed in Sirajganj ‘gunfight’

Sirajganj: A top listed terrorist was killed in what law enforcers claimed to be a ‘gunfight’ near ChakShahjadpur Uttarpar Jhaoil overbridge area under Kamarkhanda upazila in the district early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Halim Sarkar, 55, son of late Kamal Sarkar of Panchbaria village of the upazila.

Confirming the news, Rapid Action Battalion-12 special company Sirajganj camp commander Major Safayet Ahmed Suman said, tipped off, RAB conducted a drive in the area around 2:30 am Wednesday.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, a group of terrorists attempting a robbery started shooting at them prompting RAB to retaliate which triggered a gunfight. At one stage Abdul Halim caught in the line of fire and died on the spot. Two RAB members were also injured in the incident.

Abdul Halim was accused in several cases including murder, he added.
