Romel Chakma’s death : Road, waterway strike underway in Rangamati

Rangamati: Road and waterway strike at Rangamati enforced by Pahari Chhatra Parisad (PCP) supported by United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) is underway protesting the murder of Romel Chakma and demanding judicial investigation.

PCP Naniarchar upazila general secretary Romel Chakma died after he was detained by police, an incident of murder claimed by PCP and called on the strike.

The strike would be enforced across all upazila including district town from 6:00 am Sunday.

Meanwhile, no buses to Chittagong-Khargrachhari-Bandarbans left from the district town on Sunday morning as well as movement of Launch-boat of all kind was closed from the morning.

Mentionable, security forces on April 5 detained Romel from Naniarchar sadar upazila for torching truck and looting passengers’ bus. Later, he was admitted to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital as he was sick.

He died on April 19 while under treatment.
