Living legend Asha Bhosle will be honoured with West Bengal’s highest civilian award, Banga Vibhushan today at the ‘Nazrul Mancha’ in Kolkata. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will hand over the award to the fabled singer with a career spanning over more than 70 years.
Besides this award, the Banga Bhushan will also be handed out to the likes of Samaresh Majumdar, Arundhati Hom Choudhury and Sreedhara Bandyapadhyay and Subrata Bhattacharya. The award has been given to individuals with considerable contributions in their fields since 2011. Two Bangladeshis, Rezwana Choudhury Bannya (2017) and Firoza Begum (2012) had previously won the honour.
