13 DU students diagnosed with dengue

Thirteen students of Dhaka University (DU) have been diagnosed with dengue fever.
Dr Sarwar Zahan, chief medical officer of the university medical centre, confirmed the matter on Thursday noon.

Some 168 students had a blood test at the DU medical centre on Wednesday. Of them, 13 were found infected with dengue, the official said.

“Dengue detection device was introduced at the DU medical centre on Wednesday. On the first day, we took the blood samples of 168 students. With the device, we can conduct 150 tests daily,” said Dr Sarwar.

However, students have demanded closure of campus and halls fearing the dengue outbreak.

Chhatra Union today handed over a memorandum, containing the demand, to the Vice Chancellor.

Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Vice-President (VP) Nurul Haque Nur also extend his solidarity to the demand.
