2 clinker-laden lighter vessels sink in Bay

Two lighter vessels carrying 2,500 mts cement clinkers capsized in the Bay in Kutubdia on Wednesday afternoon in the inclement weather.

Bangladesh Navy and BIWTA sources said the vessels –MV Titu-18 and MV Titu-19– sank in the deep sea in Thengarchar area.

Unloading clinkers from a mother ship in the deep sea, the vessels owned by Abul Khayer group were heading towards Shah Cement factory in Muktarpur of Dhaka .

The vessels went under water after caught by storm in the inclement weather.

Naval ships conducted rescue operation  and rescued 10 crews. A special helicopter of the ships owners also rescued the rest ones.
