Striker Gabriel Jesus has been suspended from international matches for two months. He was suspended because of bad behavior in Copa America.
The governing body of South American football, CONMEBOL, also announced Wednesday that it fined the 22-year-old Jesus $30,000.
Jesus was sent off after a second yellow card at the 70-minute mark in the South American cup final. The Manchester City forward protested the decision with hand gestures. HE suggested the referee had been paid off. He also pushed the video assistant referee feed on the sidelines.
Brazil and Jesus can still appeal the decision.
If the punishment stands, Jesus will miss Brazil’s friendlies against Colombia and Peru in September. He could also be sidelined for another two matches in October.
CONMEBOL’s decision is the second involving a high-profile player after it had banned Argentina’s Lionel Messi for three months from international matches. Because of Barcelona star’s accusations of corruption at the Copa America.
