A man was hacked to death allegedly by his younger brother in Manirampur upazila of Jashore district on Thursday morning.
Deceased Makbul Gazi, was a resident of Debidaspur village in the upazila.
The deceased’ wife Kohinur Begum said there had a dispute over inherited land property between Mokbul and his younger brother Mahfuzar Gazi alias Mofu over 10 years. On August 6, Makbul protested Mofu over cutting trees from the disputed land that made him angry.
As a sequel to the dispute, Mofu indiscriminately hacked Makbul with a sharp weapon at his shop in front of the house around 9:00 am, leaving him critically injured.
Hearing his screams, Kohinur rushed there and took him Manirampur Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Assistant Superintendent of Manirampur Sadar circle Police (ASP) Rakib Hasan and Manirampur Police Station officer in-charge Rafiqul Islam visited the scene.
Second officer of the police station Tapan Kumar Singha confirmed the matter, adding that accused Mofu went into hiding after the incident and a police hunt is on to arrest him.
