Eight people have been killed and ten injured in separate road accidents in Naogaon, Gopalganj, Gaibandha, Narsingdi and Natore districts.
In Natore, one person was killed and three others injured, when a car collided with a police van in Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway in Baraigram upazila around 7am on Wednesday.
The deceased is Shahjahan Sheikh, 50, the driver of the car.
The three injured are Baraigram circle Assistant Superintendent Of Police (ASP) Harun Ar Rashid, bodyguard Ibrahim Hossain, and police van driver Mobarak Ali. The three injured victims have been taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment, Superintendent of Natore police (SP) Liton Kumar Saha confirmed to Dhaka Tribune.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Mahfuzur Rahman, of Bonpara highway police station, said the police van was on its way to Bonpara bazaar from Baraigram area when it collided with a Dhaka-bound car. The accident left the driver dead on the spot.
On information, police went to the spot and sent the body to Natore Sadar Hospital for autopsy. SP Liton said the ASP received head and chest injuries in the incident.
In Gaibandha, two people were killed and four were injured, when a microbus and CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on in Gaibandha sadar upazila around 9:45pm on Tuesday.
The injured have been taken to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital for treatment; however, their identities have not yet been confirmed.
The autorickshaw driver Khorshed Alam died on the spot. The remaining five were taken to the hospital, where another injured, Roman, died around 11pm, said OC Khan Mohammad Shahriar of Gaibandha police station.
He also said police have impounded the microbus. The driver,however, is on the run.
In Naogaon, a woman named Aklima Begum, 30, was killed as a human hauler overturned and fell into a roadside ditch in Manda upazila around 8pm.
Manda police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mozaffar Hossain told Dhaka Tribune that the accident took place when Aklima was going to her village home, killing her on the spot.
Later, police recovered the body and handed it over to her family.
In Gopalganj, two pedestrians were killed in separate accidents in Fukra and Majhigati areas near Dhaka-Khulna highway in Kashiani upazila.
The deceased are Kulsum Begum, 72, and an unidentified 32-year-old man, said OC Md Ataur Rahman of Bhanga highway police station said. He added that they were hit by a bus while trying to cross the road.
He also said the bodies have been sent to Gopalganj General Hospital.
In Narsingdi, two people were killed and three others injured as a bus rammed into a CNG-run auto rickshaw in Narsingdi- Monohardi highway near Shibpur upazila around 8pm.
